Egyptian naval forces carried out a joint exercise with US naval forces in the Red Sea on Thursday, with the participation of the Egyptian frigate Sharm El-Sheikh and the American amphibious ship USS SOMERSET-LPD 25.
The exercise comes as a continuation of the Egyptian Navy’s initiative to conduct such exercises with friendly countries, in hope of upgrading its capabilities and increasing maritime stability and security in the region.
Egypt recently conducted similar exercises with France earlier in March and Spain in February.
The training included exercises to counter atypical maritime threats, analysis of situations (surface, air, subsurface, and electronic), transportation exercises, and maritime security training.
These exercises are an affirmation of the strategic partnership and extended bilateral relations between the Egyptian armed forces and their US counterparts, an official statement said.
