Egyptian aid to Gaza totals 4,000 trucks weighing 67,000 tons

Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine al-Qabbaj stressed during the 43rd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs on Tuesday that the council and member states should provide more aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

She explained that her country through the Egyptian Red Crescent has so far sent 4,000 shipments weighing 68,000 tons of humanitarian aid through the Rafah crossing, and has also facilitated the entry of aid with a total of 9,507 tons.

Egypt will continue to provide and facilitate the entry of aid from Arab countries as well as Arab and international organizations, she said, until the situation stabilizes and the social and humanitarian conditions in Gaza improve.

She emphasized that the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs represents an important opportunity to support efforts to implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan, which can only be achieved through the formation of a comprehensive social protection system.

The minister also touched on the importance of partnerships with civil society organizations, private sector institutions, and social development banks in helping to establish the policies developed by the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, both locally and regionally.

She explained that Egypt’s initiative, which will be presented to the next Arab Development Summit, serves to link developmental institutions and banks within Arab countries.
