
Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Monday,25 May,2026, with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos as part of ongoing consultations to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss regional developments.
During the call, the two ministers praised the depth of historical ties between Egypt and Cyprus, which were elevated to a strategic partnership during President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s visit to Cyprus last April.
Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s keenness to maintain coordination at all levels with Cyprus, particularly in light of Cyprus’ current presidency of the Council of the European Union, commending Cypriot support for Egypt within various EU institutions.
The foreign minister also stressed the importance of further enhancing economic and trade cooperation and expediting implementation of the memorandum of understanding on employing Egyptian labor in Cyprus.
He further highlighted the importance of maximizing opportunities for transferring gas and energy from Egypt to Europe, stressing the significance of linking Cypriot gas fields to Egyptian infrastructure.
The two ministers exchanged views on regional developments, means of de-escalation, and the latest developments regarding US-Iran negotiations.
Abdelatty briefed his Cypriot counterpart on Egypt’s ongoing efforts, in coordination with regional partners, to reduce tensions, underlining the need to intensify regional and international efforts to advance diplomatic solutions and avoid further instability in the region.
For his part, Kombos expressed Cyprus’ appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to achieve calm and de-escalation in the region.
The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultations within the framework of the strategic relations binding the two countries and to support all efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions.
