The Egyptian Embassy in Tripoli is continuing to follow the conditions of Egyptian citizens in Wadi al-Mardoum and the city of Bani Walid in Libya until the security situation allows for their evacuation, after Libyan troops besieged the city this week.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Amr Roshdy said the Egyptian community in Bani Walid is in good condition, according to Egyptian Ambassador to Libya Hesham Abdel Wahhab’s communications with the Egyptians there.
The security condition in the city is stable, and there have been no military operations there, Roshdy added.
Libyan troops surrounded the city Bani Walid, still a stronghold for loyalists of former leader Muammar Qadhafi's regime, leaving it under siege over the kidnapping of three revolutionary fighters near the city in July. One of the fighters later died after being released.
Roshdy said Abdel Wahhab has contacted top Libyan army leaders and the high security committee responsible for the area, and they agreed that the army would transport the Egyptians in Wadi al-Mardoum to Tripoli in buses to ensure their safety.
The Egyptian Embassy has already handed a list of the names of the 113 Egyptians who reside there to the concerned authorities, he said.
