Egyptian FM announces Rafah crossing to be operational soon

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced on Monday that the Rafah crossing will soon be operational once more.

During an interview with journalist Ahmed Abu-Zeid the on “AlQahera News” channel, he explained that: “Egypt is providing all possible facilities, and aid is entering through the Karem Abu-Salem crossing, and soon the Rafah crossing will begin operating, when the preparations are completed on the Palestinian side.”

“The Egyptian side is ready, but the Israeli side has destroyed many facilities on the Palestinian side of the crossing, and there will be observers from the European Union,” he said.

The only end to this “hellish cycle” of violence is to have a credible political process that leads to the establishment of a Palestinian state, he stressed.

He added that the Palestinian state is the only guarantee of security and stability for Israel and the countries of the region.

“Regarding the second week of the implementation process (of the truce), in addition to the calm, ceasefire, and exchange of prisoners, hostages and detainees, there is a very important point that is being done well, which is the humanitarian and medical aid that is being done at good rates so far, and we exceeded the number that was agreed upon by 600 trucks per day,” the minister noted.
