Egyptian, Turkish Sunni leaders plan sectarian dialogue forum

Sunni leaders in Egypt and Turkey are examining the possibility of organizing a forum for dialogue between members of Islam's two dominant factions in an effort to reduce sectarian tensions.

Al-Azhar officials on Monday said the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar Ahmed al-Tayyib met with Hamza Aktan, the head of Turkey's Supreme Council for Religious Affairs, in Cairo to discuss details surrounding the forum.

The religious leaders, however, have yet to determine where or when the forum will be held.

Meanwhile, al-Tayyib expressed his appreciation for the efforts of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to bolster relations between Islamic states.
