Despite the current state of unrest in Tunisian cities, the Egyptian community there is safe, Egypt's ambassador to Tunisia Ahmed Shafeeq Ismail said today in a phone conversation with Sawt Al-Arab radio station.
No members of the Egyptian community in Tunisia have been injured in the riots, he said, adding that the community is very small and mostly concentrated in Safaqis, the second largest city.
A state of emergency has been declared in Tunisia following a series of protests that climaxed in the president leaving the country and the prime minister, Mohammed Ghannouchi, taking over.
