Egypt’s judicial agency to interrogate former president’s son

The head of Egypt's Illicit Gains Auhtority (IGA), Assem al-Gohary, has issued summonses for Gamal Mubarak, one of the two sons of former President Hosni Mubarak, and Zakareya Azmi, the former chief of presidential staff, to interrogate both men over corruption charges.

Investigations around the wealth of both Azmi and his wife have revealed that the former official owns several villas and other properties, the values of which are at odds with his legitimate sources of income, judicial sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

Gamal Mubarak will be summonsed next week to face accusations of illicit augmentation of wealth while acting as chairman of the Policies Secretariat at the National Democratic Party.

Investigations have revealed that Gamal has stock market shares and money in bank accounts, both in Egypt and abroad, that are larger than he could have earned through legitimate sources of income.
