Egyptian coach and former national team striker Ahmed Hossam “Mido” defended himself on Tuesday amidst claims that he verbally assaulted a fan of his team, Al-Wehda.
Mido was a television presenter and Technical Manager for Al-Wahda Saudi Club. He is the former manager of Zamalek Club, Wadi Degla, and Ismaily. Hossam is a prominent former footballer who played striker for Egypt’s Zamalek Club in 1999. He then moved to Gent of Belgium in 2000, where he won the Belgian Ebony Shoe.
The administration of Al-Wehda sports club announced its dismissal of Mido but gave no reasons for the discharge. However, Saudi reports suggested that the move followed the use of an “immoral” word by the coach against a twitter user, which angered fans.
Mido responded that his Twitter account had been hacked before announcing that he retrieved it again. He added that he would prove this through legal procedures.
Mido thanked the management of the club after its decision to dismiss him, stressing that he managed to achieve positive results with the team despite difficult circumstances and that they achieved widely praised, outstanding performances during his tenure. He confirmed his respect for the management’s decision.
