Mustafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister of Egypt, affirmed that despite all the current regional disturbances, Egypt has successfully attracted tourists and has a resilient tourism sector. He emphasized that Egypt remains an attractive destination for global tourism.
During the weekly press conference on Thursday, Madbouly explained that many reports have been issued in recent days indicating that the region is no longer attractive to global tourism due to ongoing conflicts. However, these reports also highlighted that Egypt is the only country in the region that is exempt from this situation. He emphasized that Egypt has succeeded, despite all the current regional disturbances, in achieving tourist attraction and has a resilient tourism sector.
He said, “This leads me to discuss the meetings we held this week with the Ministers of Tourism, and Housing, Utilities,and Urban Communities, regarding the tourism map in Egypt. This is with the aim of making the largest possible number of tourist areas available to encourage tourism investment and create more than 200,000 new rooms over the next five years.”
He added, “This is a very important step towards achieving Egypt’s target of 30 million tourists annually in the coming period. He explained that the number of available hotel rooms currently, both established and operational, allows us to reach a maximum of 18 million tourists per year. To achieve the larger goal, we need 200,000 hotel rooms. Currently, a large number of rooms are under construction in El Alamein and the North Coast, in addition to other areas on the Red Sea coast. He added that a number of additional incentives have been discussed to encourage tourism developers over the current and coming years to accelerate the construction and introduction of the largest number of hotel rooms, and to enable us to achieve the desired goal in the near future. He affirmed that the tourism sector is capable of continuing to grow and achieve the desired objectives.”
The Egyptian Prime Minister indicated that, based on the directives of the President of Egypt, he is following up on the readiness of the Grand Egyptian Museum for opening. He confirmed that all work on the museum has been completed,and that the development of the entire area surrounding the museum is currently being completed, not only in the immediate vicinity, but also including the axes and roads leading to the museum.
In this regard, he referred to the development taking place on the ring road, explaining that all the facades of the buildings on the ring road are being changed in accordance with a civilizational vision that includes the entire area, as it is the main axis leading to the Grand Egyptian Museum.
All the surrounding areas are also being developed, starting from the Sphinx International Airport and the vicinity of the museum itself, so that this giant project will be a gift from Egypt to the whole world. He pointed out that the final touches are being put in place for the opening of the museum, and the determination of the appropriate time for the opening will depend on the political vision within the framework of the regional circumstances surrounding the area.
