El Etreby presidential representative to BRICS, G20

The government informed the Russian government that Assistant Foreign Minister for Regional and International Economic Affairs Ragy al-Etreby will be presidential representative of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to the BRICS Egypt officially joined in 2024, the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

On its Facebook account, the ministry said it informed the Brazilian rotating presidency of the G20 that Etreby will take the same post in the group.

Brazil, currently chairing the G20, has invited Egypt to be a guest in G20 meetings, the ministry said.

Etreby asserted the keenness of the BRICS member states to invite Egypt for the membership of the BRICS and the Brazilian keenness to include Egypt in the different discussions of the G20 reflect Egypt’s rank regional and internationally in addition to its effective role in the different issues and main international economic files.

There are clear presidential directives to make Egypt’s participation active and effective and to focus on promoting joint cooperation between Egypt and the BRICS member states in the different mechanisms, Etreby said.

He also said that the presidential directives included paying attention to prioritized issues in Egypt, Africa and the developing countries during the meetings of the G20.
