The Egyptian national team’s coach Hossam Hassan was reportedly outraged after a penalty was not awarded to the Pharaohs against Belgium in the 2026 World Cup.
Egypt and Belgium played to a 1-1 draw in their opening match of the group stage on Monday evening.
In post-match comments, Hassan said, “I’m happy with the players; they’re developing and executing what’s required. I insisted on playing against strong teams before the World Cup.”
He added: “We were the ones who started scoring and were closer to winning. We had a clear penalty that wasn’t given, and what I find strange is that the referee didn’t consult VAR. If it had been against us, it would have been awarded.”
“I’m telling people that we, the Egyptian national team, are not weak, we are still developing, and we have three matches left. The most important thing is to advance to the next round, and we’re taking each match one at a time.”
