Environment Ministry boasts of cutting Cairo air pollution by 78%

The Egyptian Environment Ministry announced this week that air pollution in Cairo had been reduced by 78 percent.

Ministry officials attributed the improvement to several recent anti-pollution measures, including the removal of 100,000 cubic meters of garbage from 40 locations along the Cairo ring road and the recycling of some 700,000 tons of rice husks this year.

Officials went on to point out that the ministry had installed environmentally friendly exhaust systems in more than 1200 public buses and 18,000 private cars.
