An Egyptian army officer in Cairo's Tahrir Square told protesters on Monday to immediately evacuate the area or face detention, according to demonstrators.
The area has been the epicenter of the wide scale anti-regime protests that kicked off on 25 January and led to the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak on 11 February, after nearly 30 years in power.
The square's flow of traffic was restored on Sunday following a hiatus of more than two weeks.
On the same day the army announced that it had annulled the Constitution and disbanded parliament. It is working on restoring order to the country following the total collapse of security apparatuses.
