First batch of Chinese high-speed train parts on the way to Egypt

The North China Railway Company (CNR) has shipped the first batch of high-speed train parts to Egypt from the Chinese port of Tianjin.

The Chinese People’s Daily said on Monday that the shipment includes 212 parts, designed specially for Egypt.

The government of former Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri had signed a contract in 2012 with SEMAF, a subsidiary of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, for 212 air-conditioned cars at a price of LE2.1 billion. SEMAF has in turn contracted CNR to manufacture the cars' outer bodies.

According to the contract, CNR is supplying 69 first-class and 115 economy-class cars, in addition to 23 restaurant cars and five VIP cars.
