The Freedom and Justice Party in a statement Wednsday said that the party that holds the most People's Assembly and Shura Council seats should form a coalition government that would be approved by Parliament.
The FJP, which with its alliance holds a plurality in both houses, has been very critical of Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri, who was appointed by the military council in November following five days of violence and unrest in several major cities between security forces and protesters.
The party statement also said the current government is burdening the coming one with too many problems and should be removed for failing to manage the country’s political, economic, social and security affairs.
According to the Constitutional Declaration approved last March, only the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces has the right to dissolve or appoint cabinets.
But the FJP, which has more than 40 percent of seats in the People’s Assembly, has argued that the government should either resign or be sacked if it loses the confidence of Parliament. It offered to lead a new coalition government in collaboration with other political forces.
The party said on Wednesday that Ganzouri's cabinet failed to ensure an adequate supply of petrol and diesel, in addition being unable to resolve the shortage of butane gas cylinders or control rising commodity prices.
The FJP has further held the government responsible for lifting the travel ban on defendants in the ongoing NGO case, after which all but one of the American defendants left the country.
