Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said on Sunday, November, 23, 2025, Cairo seeks to strengthen economic and trade ties with Canada and encourage Canadian companies to invest in Egypt, especially in the energy, agriculture and waters resources sectors.
During a meeting with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, November, 23, 2025, on the sidelines of the G20 meetings in Johannesburg, Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the distinguished relations between the two countries.
He outlined the measures Egypt has taken in recent years to support the private sector and improve the business climate, underlining the importance of building on the progress made during the 12th round of political consultations, which included a visit by an Egyptian business delegation to Ottawa in April.
Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s position towards developments in Gaza, reiterating Cairo’s continued efforts to uphold the Sharm El Sheikh agreement and work with the United States and other partners to advance implementation of the agreement’s second phase, leading to a sustainable resolution based on the two-state solution.
He renewed Egypt’s invitation for his Canadian counterpart to participate in the conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, and praised Canada’s recognition of the State of Palestine in September.
