ANKARA, Nov 12 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt and Turkey share deep-rooted ties and a long history of brotherhood and cooperation aimed at promoting peace and stability across the region.

He noted that he held fruitful consultations with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on a wide range of bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.

During a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart in Ankara, Abdelatty said that the longstanding relations between Egypt and Turkey contribute to strengthening mutual understanding on numerous regional and international matters.

He added that, in light of the great importance attached by the leaderships of both countries to advancing cooperation, the two sides established the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, co-chaired by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Abdelatty extended heartfelt condolences, on behalf of Egypt’s leadership and people, to Minister Fidan and the Turkish people over the victims of the recent military plane crash. He prayed for mercy for the deceased and offered sincere sympathy to their families.

The minister expressed his deep appreciation to his “dear friend” Minister Fidan for the warm reception and generous hospitality, voicing his great pleasure at visiting Turkey for the third time.

“I was honored to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and to hold productive consultations with Minister Fidan on bilateral, regional, and international issues, as well as on the first meeting of the Joint Planning Group, which aims to elevate bilateral relations to new heights,” Abdelatty said.

He noted that his current visit coincides with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between Egypt and Turkey, extending his congratulations to his Turkish counterpart on this occasion.

As a gesture reflecting the depth of ties between the two nations, Abdelatty presented Turkey with a replica of the statue of one of Egypt’s great pharaohs, King Amenhotep VI, to be placed in a prominent location in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

He recalled that the inaugural session of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council was held in Ankara on September 4, co-chaired by President Sisi and President Erdogan, expressing Egypt’s aspiration to host the second session of the Council in Cairo with President Erdogan’s participation.

Abdelatty added that positive discussions were also held during the first meeting of the Joint Planning Group, which included senior officials from both sides and addressed key aspects of bilateral cooperation. (MORE)
