FM, Saudi counterpart probe bilateral relations, regional developments

CAIRO, Nov 22 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan reviewed Saturday bilateral relations and developments in regional issues of mutual interest, especially the situation in Gaza.

During a meeting on the margins of their participation in the 2025 Group of Twenty (G20) Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday, the two sides hailed the deeply rooted historical ties binding the sisterly Arab countries, as well as the recent momentum in bilateral cooperation at various levels.

The summit is scheduled for November 22-23.

The ministers emphasized the importance of speeding up the measures necessary for finalizing arrangements for the first meeting of the Egyptian-Saudi Supreme Coordination Council under the co-chairmanship of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to advance strategic cooperation between both countries.

They also shared views on a raft of regional and international issues of mutual concern, topped by the developments in the Gaza Strip.

The ministers underscored the importance of implementing the latest UNSC resolution to create and deploy an International Stabilization Force Gaza (ISF) in the war-torn enclave and moving forward with the 2nd phase of President Trump’s 20-Point Peace Plan.

Abdelatty underlined the need to enable the ISF to perform its mandate in order to consolidate the ongoing ceasefire and ensure security for the Palestinian people inside the enclave.

The ministers also reviewed ongoing efforts to cement the ceasefire and implement the Sharm El Sheikh agreement to war in Gaza, as well as the preparations underway for an international conference for Gaza’s early recovery and reconstruction, to be held in Egypt.

As for the Sudanese crisis, the ministers emphasized the need for a comprehensive ceasefire and resuming the political process within the International Quartet framework to preserve Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, urging coordinated Arab and regional efforts.

They also affirmed their support for Sudan’s national institutions.

Discussing the situation in Lebanon, the ministers stressed the importance of preserving the country’s stability and territorial integrity and avoiding escalation. They also reaffirmed support for Lebanon’s state institutions and sovereignty to ensure regional peace and security.

Abdelatty welcomed the outcomes of the recent visit of the Saudi Crown Prince to the US, highlighting its importance for serving the interests of Arab and Muslim countries.

Meanwhile, the Saudi diplomat thanked Egypt for its ceaseless efforts to support regional stability, emphasizing the strategic importance of coordination between the sisterly Arab countries.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly arrived in Johannesburg on Friday, leading a high-level delegation, including the foreign minister, to participate in the 2025 Group of Twenty (G20) Summit on behalf of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. (MENA)
