FM stresses importance of activating joint Arab action in Syria

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has pressed for an activated Arab action to solve Arab issues away from global polarization.

Egypt is keen on reaching an Arab solution to the Syrian crisis, Shoukry said during the opening of an extra-ordinary session of the Arab League Council on Sunday.
“Arab solutions are needed to solve Arab issues,” Shoukry told his Arab counterparts, who gathered in Cairo to discuss the situation in Syria.
The Egyptian top diplomat blamed what he called “multiple foreign interference” for the aggravating suffering of the Syrian people over the past years that led to a stalemate.
He, once again, stressed that a political solution is the only way to solve the Syrian crisis and achieve national consensus.
Shoukry hailed as “an important step” the participation of Syria in an Amman meeting on May 1, believing it served as a good will gesture.
It is high time that the Arabs acted toward a solution in Syria, whose fate now hinges on international arrangements, Shoukry said.

Unfortunately, terrorist groups have infiltrated into Syria with the help of other countries, and with the aim to achieve certain political goals, the minister regretted.

The Syrian people now stand alone in the face of multiple and accumulated challenges, the Egyptian top diplomat noted.

It is a top Arab priority to tangibly contribute to outlining solutions to Arab crises, Shoukry said.
He added that he is looking forward to having further discussions with Arab League member states in a bid to solve the Syrian problem.
