FM to MENA: Egypt won’t stop working for a ceasefire in Gaza

ALAMEIN, Egypt, Aug 28 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty confirmed that Egypt is fully committed to securing a ceasefire in Gaza through continuous communications with all involved parties.

In statements to MENA, Abdelatty stated that Egypt is working toward a practical solution that includes a ceasefire, the release of hostages and detainees, and full access for humanitarian aid. He described this as the only workable path to ending the war.

The minister rejected unrealistic demands presented by some parties and said Egypt’s position remains consistent, based on the ceasefire proposal introduced by US envoy Steve Witkoff. He added that Egypt’s efforts will not stop, regardless of attempts to obstruct its mediation role.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s position on Palestinian rights, saying they are internationally recognized and non-negotiable. He also rejected any plans for forced displacement, stressing that Rafah Crossing is strictly for the passage of humanitarian aid, not population transfer.

The top diplomat also noted that Egypt is engaging with European and international partners ahead of an EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Denmark. Contacts are ongoing with Germany, France, Norway, Denmark, and the EU’s foreign policy leadership, according to him.

Additionally, Abdelatty welcomed Germany’s suspension of arms exports, saying that other countries must take firm steps to stop the systematic killing and starvation. He confirmed that Hamas has accepted the latest ceasefire proposal and warned that continued delay will lead to further suffering. (MORE)
