
NEW YORK/CAIRO, Sept 28 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty underlined the need to intensify efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensure the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid.
The top diplomat gave the remarks during his meeting with United Nations Secretary General António Guterres on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York.
Abdelatty praised Guterres’ fair and wise positions in addressing international and regional challenges.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the role of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security and in confronting growing global challenges.
The UN chief commended Egypt’s role as a key player in the multilateral system, its firm commitment to the UN Charter, and its ongoing efforts to promote peace, security, sustainable development, and respect for international law.
Guterres also hailed Egypt’s efforts and vision in working towards stability in the Middle East.
Abdelatty reviewed the latest developments in Gaza, welcoming President Donald trump’s recent commitment to work with regional leaders to end the war on Gaza and open a political and developmental horizon.
He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any plans aimed at displacing Palestinians or liquidating the Palestinian cause. He strongly condemned Israeli practices involving killings and the deliberate starvation of civilians.
He reiterated Egypt’s unwavering position in support of establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, saying such a move will be a cornerstone for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
He also welcomed the growing number of countries recognizing the State of Palestine.

Abdelatty unveiled Egypt’s intention to host an international conference in cooperation with the United Nations, the Palestinian Authority, and international partners to support early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza with the aim of mobilizing resources for the rehabilitation and rebuilding of the Strip.
On Sudan, he reiterated Egypt’s firm support for the unity, stability, and sovereignty of Sudan and the integrity of its territory.
He underlined the importance of preserving national institutions, intensifying efforts to lift the siege on the city of El Fasher, and ending the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
On Libya, he stressed the need to advance the political process in a way that preserves Libyan ownership of the solution and leads to the holding of simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
He also called for the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory to ensure lasting stability.
Abdelatty also briefed the Secretary General on Egypt’s diplomatic efforts that led to the signing of an agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Cairo to resume technical cooperation.
Both sides agreed to continue close coordination and consultations between Egypt and the United Nations in a manner that serves the interests of peoples and supports efforts to achieve peace, security, and development at the regional and international levels. (MENA)
