CAIRO, Dec 11 (MENA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates affairs organized a major ceremony late Thursday at Al Tahrir Palace to honor prominent figures of Egyptian diplomacy who significantly contributed to elevating Egypt’s regional and international standing and reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of stability in its Arab, African and global surroundings.
The list of honorees included a distinguished group of Egyptian diplomatic icons whose contributions left a lasting imprint on national service and on representing Egypt in regional and international forums.
The honorees included Esmat Abdel Meguid, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, Ahmed Maher, Nabil El Araby and Osama el Baz.
The ceremony also paid tribute to a number of former Egyptian foreign ministers from different eras, including Mahmoud Fawzi, Kamal Hassan Ali, Ismail Fahmy, Mahmoud Riad, Mohamed Mourad Ghaleb, Mohamed Hassan el Zayyat, Mohamed Ibrahim Kamel and Mostafa Khalil.
The event was attended by Justice Minister Adnan el Fangary, Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsi, Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime Ghada Waly as well as a large group of former foreign ministers led by Amr Moussa, Mohamed el Orabi, Nabil Fahmy and Sameh Shoukry.
The event was also attended by Mostafa el Feki and several parliamentarians.
In his address, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed profound pride in honoring these diplomatic figures who served as essential pillars in safeguarding national interests and strengthening Egypt’s global standing.
He asserted that the professional and human legacy they left behind will continue to inspire current and future generations of diplomats.
Abdelatty stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains committed to advancing its path of modernization and to building upon the firm principles established by these pioneers, principles rooted in professionalism, discipline and devotion to national service.
This will enhance the role of Egyptian diplomacy as an effective instrument for protecting national security and supporting the state’s efforts across regional and international arenas, he said.
He added that honoring this elite group of diplomatic trailblazers is not merely a celebration of a distinguished past, but a renewed affirmation of Egypt’s commitment to these values set by these icons. (MENA)
