Foreign Ministry summons Turkish ambassador to protest demands for Morsy’s release

The Foreign Ministry on Monday evening summoned the Turkish ambassador in Cairo, Hussein Awni Botsala, to protest his recent statement demanding the release of deposed President Mohamed Morsy, considering it an unacceptable interference in Egypt’s internal affairs.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry had said earlier that Turkey continues to stand by legitimacy in Egypt and demand the release of all political prisoners, including Morsy.

Egypt and Turkey had summoned their ambassadors on 15 August for consultation after the dispersal of the Brotherhood sit-ins, which Turkey called a “bloody repression.”

The Turkish ambassador returned to Cairo in September, but the Egyptian ambassador has not yet returned to Ankara.
