CAIRO, March 4 (MENA) – Former assistant foreign minister Mohamed Hegazy said on Wednesday that Egypt approaches current regional turmoil with strategic awareness and balance, guided by the principles of Arab national security and a thorough understanding of the risks posed by shifts in the Middle East.
Hegazy noted that Egypt’s credibility with both regional and international actors enables positive intervention and influence while mitigating the impact of external pressures.
He added that Cairo maintains a network of relationships based on mutual respect, supporting national security and development priorities without aligning exclusively with any particular axis.
The ambassador emphasized that this strategic balance reinforces Egypt’s role as a “regional anchor” and a partner for dialogue rather than a promoter of conflict.
Hegazy underlined that Egypt’s policy avoids interfering in the affairs of other states, focusing instead on risk management through a calculated balance of deterrence and diplomacy to safeguard national interests without being drawn into uncalculated moves.
He added that this approach has been evident in Egypt’s handling of crises in Gaza, Libya, Sudan, and Red Sea security, where the country remains an active mediator, while maintaining readiness to protect vital interests.
Hegazy concluded that maintaining internal stability, enhancing military and diplomatic capabilities, and linking security with development are the most effective measures to safeguard the state in an unpredictable region. (MENA)
