Mahdi Akef, the former Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide, denied any knowledge of the events that took place at the Guidance Bureau on 30 June.
"I am the former Supreme Guide and I am 85, I know nothing about the events that took place at the Guidance Bureau," Akef told investigators at the South Cairo Prosecution.
Akef added that his relationship with the Brotherhood has been cut off since Mohamed Badie became the new Supreme Guide. He said he does not know anything about the group's activities or what decisions the Guidance Bureau takes.
Akef denied having incited the killing of protesters or having taken any decision that put protesters in danger.
Rashad Bayoumy, a member of the Guidance Bureau, told investigators that he did not know anything about the events that took place at the Guidance Bureau or the people who fired at the protesters there. He added that he learned of those clashes from the media.
"If the police had been there to protect the Guidance Bureau, they would have killed the protesters just like members of the Brotherhood did, but the police failed to protect the headquarters.”
Seven people were killed and more than forty were injured in clashes at the Guidance Bureau on 30 June.
