Four drinking water plants break down in Alexandria

Four drinking water plants in Alexandria broke down Tuesday, as a result of the heavy rain the coastal governorate witnessed over the past week.

Chairman of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company Ahmed Gaber said in a press statement that the four plants stopped functioning because the drainage network could not bear the amount of rainwater.

"We conducted tests on the water of the four plants and found a high level of salinity…resulting in water that does not conform to standards," he added.

The break down of the four plants has caused Alexandria to be short of one third of its water needs, according to Gaber, who stressed that company officials are working on solving the problem as soon as possible.
