Govt mulls moving ministries to Cairo outskirts

With Cairo suffering from daily traffic jams that paralyze its main thoroughfares, Housing Minister Ahmed el-Maghraby said the government was considering transferring the headquarters of government ministries from Downtown Cairo to the suburban district of New Cairo on the capital’s outskirts.

“We plan to build more multi-storey parking garages in addition to the six we already have,” the minister declared at a meeting with real estate developers on Sunday.

According to El-Maghraby, his ministry has completed the strategic urban planning of the 6th of October and Sheikh Zayed satellite cities, and is on the verge of completing plans for ten others.
