Health owes education more than LE500 million

Debts from a government program that provides medical treatment at state expense have reportedly exceeded LE500 million. For this reason, the Education Ministry has decided not to admit any more patients referred to its hospitals by the health ministry.

The health ministry owes Cairo’s Al-Kasr Al-Eini Hospital alone more than LE50 million.

According to one health ministry official, the ministry plans to pay up once it confirms that the medical services provided for patients referred to university hospitals were commensurate with the debts in question.
