The Interior Ministry Prison Authority has transferred the former housing minister to Tora prison hospital for a one-day psychological evaluation.
A psychiatrist had diagnosed Mohamed Ibrahim Suleiman as suffering from mental disorders and depression, which have slowed his speech.
The prison administration, under the supervision of Prisons Director Major General Abdullah Saqr, had noted that Suleiman — who is currently being detained on charges of profiteering and intentional damage of public funds — was suffering from anxiety attacks and claustrophobia and that his prison mates had noticed unusual behavior.
The assistant interior minister for the prison sector, Major General Mohamed Naguib, ordered a psychiatric evaluation for Suleiman at the Tora prison hospital.
Following the evaluation, the psychiatrist reported that Suleiman was suffering from loss of appetite, inability to eat, extreme anxiety and slow speech.
Suleiman was diagnosed with clinical depression and claustrophobia. A medical committee recommended a one-day observation of his condition, fearing it would deteriorate.
