Egypt’s Hurghada International Airport receives first post-reopening flight from Ukraine

Egypt’s Hurghada International Airport on Wednesday received the first foreign flight from Ukraine following the start of the country’s gradual reopening and the resumption of tourism in the Red Sea, South Sinai, and Marsa Matrouh governorates.

Egypt suspended tourism in March as part of measures to combat the spread of coronavirus. Tourism is a vital sector in Egypt, accounting for roughly 12 percent of Egypt’s GDP.

The flight carried 167 tourists, according to the airport’s operational schedule.

Airport officials applied coronavirus prevention measures in dealing with the passengers, including social distancing.

The tourists also passed through thermal cameras to check their temperatures, and had their luggage disinfected.

Egypt’s Ministry of Aviation provided the airport with six thermal cameras as part of protective measures against coronavirus aimed at maintaining the safety of passengers, according to Adel Mahgoub, Chairperson of the Egyptian Airports Company.

The cameras were installed at the new and old airport terminals, and at the entry gate allocated for the airport staff.
