Egypt’s Hurghada International Airport will begin receiving Belavia Belarusian Airlines flights starting July 4.
The decision follows on the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism’s decision to resume air travel to and from Egyptian airports starting July 1.
Civil aviation traffic in Egypt has been suspended since March 19, excluding cargo flights, charter flights for tourist groups already in Egypt who want to return home, international medical flights and domestic flights.
Belavia Belarusian Airlines already resumed flights to and from several European countries on June 15.
Egypt’s Minister of Tourism Khaled Anany held virtual talks with his Belarusian counterpart Sergei Kovalchuk to discuss the resumption of tourism between the two countries. The talks focused on tourist sites in the Red Sea and South Sinai governorates, which are the first choice for 90 percent of Belarusian tourists.
The Red Sea Tourism Investors Association said in June that Belarus would be the first tourist market to enter the city of Hurghada, and that communication with foreign tourist markets has picked up, with the goal of setting dates for the return of international air travel and tourism.
Other countries currently planning on resuming tourism to Egypt soon include Ukraine and Serbia.
The International Council for Tourism and Travel (ICTT) in June granted Egypt the “Safe Travel Stamp” after approving the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ health safety regulations to receive foreign tourism.
Egypt announced on June 7 that air traffic in all Egyptian airports will resume staring July 1, in accordance with Egypt’s preventive and precautionary measures to coexist with the coronavirus outbreak. Flight reservations have reopened in all airline offices.
