Between June 2009 and June 2010, a total of 339,600 new personal license plates were issued by Egypt's Department of Motor Vehicles, according to the state-run Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC)'s August report.

This, the report notes, has led to an increase in the total number of licensed automobiles in Egypt, which reached 2,656,700 cars last June as compared to 2,317,100 cars in the same month the previous year–representing an overall yearly increase of 14.7 percent.

The number of taxis currently in operation in Egypt also increased by 6 percent on the year, with the addition of 20,900 new cabs during the same period.

The IDSC report goes on to note that the number of licenses issued for heavy trucks had increased by 10.5 percent during the same period, with 873,700 trucks operating in June as compared to 790,900 in June 2009.
