Independents have won the elections for the board of Cairo University’s teaching staff.
The polls had a low voter turnout, with only 550 out of the general assembly’s 11,000 members attending the elections.
Twenty-nine candidates competed for 15 available seats on the board, with ballot counting concluding late Friday.
University staff and student elections were marred by state intervention prior to the 2011 uprising, which secured a niche for opposition groups and independents.
