Indonesia to open new markets for Egyptian citrus through Jakarta port

Indonesia has agreed to open new markets for Egyptian citrus exports through the port of Jakarta, said chairman of the Central Administration for Agricultural Quarantine Saad Moussa on Monday.

Exporting Egyptian citrus through the port of Jakarta is a positive step as Jakarta previously banned the export of Egyptian citrus through its port, which forced Egyptian exporters to use other Indonesian ports at higher costs, according to Moussa.

The Agriculture Ministry said in a statement in November 2015 that the total Egyptian exports of vegetables in 2015 amounted to 1,000,337 tons, ranking first in exports, followed by citrus with a total of 1,000,398 tons and fruit with a total of 1,000,272 tons.
