Fierce clashes broke out between supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsy and supporters of the Armed Forces in the Soyouf area east of Alexandria.
Around 200 protesters from the Muslim Brotherhood had set off on a march and as soon as they arrived on Port Said street the army stopped them from advancing further as they were heard chanting against Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Violent clashes erupted between the two sides in which birdshot, bladed weapons and rocks were used. A number of people were injured.
In Cleopatra, frictions took place between supporters of Sisi and of the Brotherhood after a pro-army march set off from al-Qaed Ibrahim Mosque to Sidi Gaber. The march stopped in Cleopatra when some residents started waving the Rabaa sign from their windows and balconies, which the marchers considered an attempt to provoke them.
Some of the protesters pelted the windows with rocks and some of them tried to climb the buildings but their gates were firmly closed.
