Interior Ministry: 73 arrested during Friday demos

Seventy-three supporters of former president Mohamed Morsy were arrested across the country during protests on Friday, an Interior Ministry official said.

Assistant Interior Minister for Media Abdel Fattah Othman told al-Hayat satellite channel that security forces had managed to confront small-scale demonstrations by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Twelve were arrested in Cairo, including two with BB guns at a demonstration at Dar al-Salam, south of the capital, Othman said.

“Skirmishes took place between citizens and Brotherhood protesters in Fayoum, and bird shots from protesters injured policemen and civilians,” he added.

He revealed that one citizen was killed during clashes in Alexandria.

Others were also arrested in Daqahlia, Damietta, Assiut, Qena and Minya.
