An extremist element affiliated with a group that claimed responsibility for several bloody attacks on Egyptian security forces was killed in a shootout with police on Tuesday.
Mohamed (Abu Obaida) al-Toukhy, a member of Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, was chased and killed by police in the Badr Park ln Gesr al-Suez, east of Cairo, an official security source said, adding that the suspect had been wanted by police over several terrorist attacks, including the blast that hit the Cairo Security Directorate in January and left four dead.
The source said security had been informed that Abu Obaida was frequenting a flat at Ain Shams district, and that he initiated the shooting before the forces shot him in the chest.
