Assistant Interior Minister for Media Affairs Abu Bakr Abdel Karim said the Interior Ministry condemns individual violations against citizens by officers.
Abdel Karim's statement was made following a video that went viral Wednesday showing police officers beating a man inside Dar al-Salam metro station.
The interior minister has ordered an investigation into the incident, Abdel Karim said in a phone-in interview on TV channel Mehwar Wednesday.
The Interior Ministry does not forgive violations committed by its employees and stands against any attempt to distort the relationship between the police and citizens, he added.
Abdel Karim described the incident as unacceptable under any pretext, stressing that policemen who commit violations will be held accountable.
