An Iranian official said on Wednesday no decisions have been made in promoting Egyptian-Iranian relations and that developing a relationship between the two countries would take time.
Mojtaba Amani, the director of the office for Iranian interests in Cairo, said the office hadn't decided on whether to promote bilateral diplomatic relations, according to the state-run news agency MENA.
“Speaking about appointing ambassadors to the two countries before announcing an improvement in relations would be very early,” Amani said.
Amani also denied reports that Iran appointed Ali Akbar Sibuyeh as the first Iranian ambassador to Cairo. He said an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman had also denied the rumor.
Egypt has not been informed of any developments regarding the appointment of an Iranian ambassador to Cairo, Amani added.
