Israel urges its citizens to leave Sinai immediately

Israel called on its citizens on Monday not to travel to the Sinai Peninsula and called on any of its citizens who are presently there to leave immediately due to deteriorating security conditions in Egypt.

Israel's Counter-Terrorism Bureau said in a statement on Monday that security information indicates that attacks may take place in Sinai due to the ongoing political turmoil in Egypt.

In a statement cited by Israeli newspaper Maariv,  Israeli Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich said on Sunday that the Israeli army is maintaining a state of alert at its southern border with Egypt, adding that Israel is communicating on a daily basis with its Egyptian counterparts.

Clashes broke out Monday morning at the Republican Guard headquarters between supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsy and forces from the army and police, resulting in the deaths of 43 people and 322 others to suffer injuries, according to figures from the Health Ministry.
