The Israeli Army Radio reported on Saturday evening that a drone was detected coming from the direction of the Egyptian border, indicating that – according to initial estimates – it was launched from Yemeni territory.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said, “The air force intercepted a drone launched from the east a short while ago,” noting that warnings were activated in accordance with established policy.
Israeli media reported that the drone was intercepted over the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula
On Saturday morning, the Israeli military announced that it had detected a missile launch from Yemen and later announced that it had been intercepted after air raid sirens sounded in Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, and other nearby areas.
Yemen announces military operation
A statement from the Yemeni Armed Forces announced on Saturday that they were implementing a military operation “against an Israeli enemy target south of the occupied Jaffa area.”
Ansar Allah military spokesperson Yahya Saree said that “the military operation in Jaffa was carried out with a hypersonic ballistic missile. The missile successfully reached its target, and the interception systems failed to intercept it.”
Residents of the areas where the alerts were sounded reported hearing loud explosions in the air.
The Israeli ambulance service announced that no injuries were reported except for a 26-year-old man who sustained minor injuries while heading to a shelter.
Yemen’s attack comes as part of its support for Palestine. In the last 24 hours, two ballistic missiles were launched toward northern Israel. The first, in the early morning hours, targeted the Ramat David military base, and the second, in the afternoon, targeted the Haifa area.
