The Israeli Ministry of Health has announced 153 cases of West Nile fever in the central region of Israel, confirming 11 deaths from the disease.
West Nile fever is a virus that is spread through mosquito bites.
Following the results of its monitoring, the Israeli Ministries of Environmental Protection and Health have called on citizens to protect themselves from mosquito bites by following the issued guidelines to help in national efforts to limit the spread of the disease.
To avoid mosquito bites, the ministries called for drying up stagnant water sources that may be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Symptoms of the disease include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, swollen lymph nodes, and a rash.
The West Nile virus is a serious neurological disease in humans, but 80 percent of cases are asymptomatic.
