Jihad prisoners to be released soon

Members of the Islamist Jihad Organization that have served out their jail sentences and vowed to abandon the use of violence will soon be released from prison. Mohamed Higazy, a Jihad member who served a seven-year prison sentence, was released by authorities last week.

In a related development, security services recently released prisoners affiliated with the Gamaa Islamiya group who have completed their sentences. Recent releases include Mohamed Khafaga and Abdel Hamid Abu Ghoneima, the latter of whom served a 15-year prison sentence for allegedly killing a senior State Security officer in the 1990s.
