Karama Party enters presidential fray with new signature campaign

Hamdin Sabbahi, head of the opposition Karama Party (as yet unlicensed), announced the launch of a campaign on Tuesday to promote himself as a candidate in next year’s presidential elections.

The campaign will aim to collect signatures in support of his list of demands for constitutional change and fair elections.

Sabbahi’s campaign managers will hold free iftar (breakfast) banquets during the Islamic month of Ramadan during which they plan to collect signatures.

“Our campaign does not conflict with that of the National Association for Change [established by would-be independent presidential contender Mohamed ElBaradei] but rather complements it,” said campaign coordinator Hossam Moenis. “People should feel free to sign both petitions.”
