Freedom and Justice Party leader Saad al-Katatny has rejected the resignation of his deputy, Essam al-Erian, who presented it on Saturday after losing the party leadership election, according to FJP leader Azab Mostafa.
Party spokesperson Ahmed Subaie said Erian would continue to make every effort for the party to gain its “natural” place in the next parliamentary elections.
Katatny had defeated Erian in the election for FJP party president on Friday. He won with 76 percent of the vote, according to Hussein Ibrahim, an FJP leader and head of the committee supervising the election.
Voting members included all FJP MPs, all members of FJP offices around the country, and founding FJP members in all governorates. According to the party, 1,118 members were eligible to vote in the election.
