Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting on Monday to follow up on progress in the application of the Universal Health Insurance System (UHI), especially that it would be expanded to include new governorates.
Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister and Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Amr Talaat, Head of the National Authority for Social Insurance Gamal Awad, Chairman of the General Authority of Healthcare Ahmed El Sobky, and other officials attended the meeting, the Cabinet’s spokesman, Nader Saad, said.
The meeting reviewed the executive situation of the construction works in the governorates of the UHI’s first phase, which are Port Said, Suez, Luxor, Ismailia, Aswan, and South Sinai and suggestions to increase the implementation rates in hospitals and health units in these governorates.
The meeting also touched on the executive situation of the system’s automation process.
Sobky, during the meeting, said the number of people registered in the system until August has reached more than 4.5 million beneficiaries, noting that nearly 13 million medical services have been offered in the governorates of Port Said, Ismailia, and Luxor in addition to the conduction of over 196,000 surgeries at 21 hospitals and 134 health units in these three governorates.
