Magdi Yacoub’s Cairo project set to become the region’s largest heart center

The visionary mission launched by pioneering surgeon Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub in Aswan is about to undergo a massive, multi-acre scale-up just outside Cairo.

Nearing its highly anticipated launch, the newly constructed Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Center is designed to operate not merely as a hospital, but as a fully integrated medical ecosystem.

Nestled on a sprawling 35-acre campus in 6th of October City—situated dynamically between the iconic Giza Pyramids and the Zewail City of Science and Technology—this 85,000-square-meter megastructure is officially the largest dedicated cardiovascular healing and research hub in the region.

A Modern fortress of healing

Rather than segmenting treatment and science, the campus acts as a unified powerhouse where cutting-edge clinical operations directly feed into academic advancement.

By consolidating advanced innovation hubs and world-class educational infrastructure into a single footprint, the center is uniquely structured to cultivate the next generation of medical minds from across Africa and the Middle East.

Radical accessibility in cardiac care

At its core, the project’s massive scale is a direct answer to a critical humanitarian challenge. By deploying a 300-bed facility capable of administering 12,000 specialized interventions and welcoming over 120,000 patients annually, the institution effectively doubles its previous capacity to clear severe regional waitlists.

Crucially, the center’s operating philosophy reverses the traditional healthcare model:

The humanitarian mandate

The most complex cardiac procedures—with a particular emphasis on saving vulnerable pediatric patients—will be delivered entirely free of charge to underprivileged families, anchoring Sir Magdi Yacoub’s lifelong commitment to equitable, world-class medicine.
