MB calls on ruling party to declare donations from businessmen

Members of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) opposition movement's parliamentary bloc this week urged the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) to declare the exact amount of donations it received from the wealthy businessmen within its ranks.

“Some of these businessmen give donations in the millions,” said MB bloc deputy Hussein Ibrahim. “I wonder if they have ulterior motives.”

Ibrahim called on the NDP to declare the total amount of donations received in order to ensure the transparency of upcoming parliamentary elections slated for November.

MB bloc member Hamdi Hassan, for his part, asserted that the ruling party was intent on establishing a "lobby" of influential business tycoons within parliament.

“These businessmen seek parliamentary immunity in order to achieve their personal and business aims,” Hassan said.
