MB leader sentenced to life in prison for ‘harming economy’

On Tuesday, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hassan Malik, and six others to life in prison. Three others were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment on charges of harming the national economy and funding terrorists.

The court acquitted 14 others.

Prosecutors referred the defendants to the Criminal Court, stating that between the year 2015 and September 24, 2017 in the governorates of Cairo and Giza, Malek and the second defendant Abdel Rahman Mohamed Saudi supported a terrorist group whose purpose is to suspend the Constitution and laws and to prevent State institutions and public authorities from carrying out their duties as well as hijacking the personal freedom of citizens and public rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
